FRESH SUMMER MAKEUP
Summer makeup should be as light and maintanence free as possible. Don’t load yourself down with too much makeup baggage. The less you have to maintain, the fresher you'll look all day long.
Face First
The heat and humidity of summer can wreak havoc with foundation, which is heavy and tends to melt. We suggest skipping foundation altogether and relying on a sunless tanning product or bronzer to give you a healthy, all-over glow.
If you need some coverage, consider using a tinted moisturizer (Cover Girl makes a great one) instead of foundation.
If you can't live without foundation, switch to an oil-free formula during the summer months or dilute your everyday foundation with an oil-free moisturiser.
Whatever you wear on your face, the first thing you should put on after cleansing in the morning is a high-SPF sunscreen. This will help to prevent skin damage that can eventually lead to wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Trust us, you'll thank us when you're older!
Frosty Eyes
Experiment with shimmery eye shadows. Think frosted, ice cream-inspired colors. Green, pink, lavender and white frosted shadows look awesome when you've got a (fake) tan. Finish the look with a sheer glossy mouth and you are so set!
Peachey Keen, Jellybean!
Peach is a really hot makeup eye shadow colour this year. We've spotted it on everyone from Britney Spears to Eve! Peach colored eye shadow makes blue eyes look bluer, and adds depth to brown eyes. If you try it, keep lips neutral - choose a pale pink or gold shade, NOT peach. Going peach all over the face just looks weird!
To Line Or Not to Line?
Skip the eye liner this summer. Liners tend to run and drip in the summertime heat. If you must wear eyeliner, keep in on the top lids only, and use a navy or violet shade - these look best with sun-kissed skin.
Lash Out!
A shimmery eye shadow and a coat or two of mascara is really all you need for a pretty and finished-looking summer eye. Look for long-wearing or waterproof mascara, since these hold up better in the sweltering days of summer. Don't use mascara on the lower lashes, where it's most likely to streak when you get hot.
Pretty Lips
Frosty pastels look awesome on the lips too. But if frosted lip colors are not your bag baby, smooth corals and baby pinks are just as refreshing. Summer is time to shimmer, so go for the sparkly glosses (if you like them)! If your skin is olive toned or dark, you can go darker with the lip gloss colors and still look natural. Fair skinned girls should stick to lighter tones or clear gloss. For truly beautiful lips, look for glosses or lipsticks that contain added moisture or lip balm.
Shimmery Cheeks
This summer, the hottest look for faces is less color, more glow. That means skipping the blush and going for a product that gives a soft white, cream or pink shimmer to the apples of your cheeks. Try shimmer sticks, or you can even use a favorite shimmer eyeshadow. Stars like Keira Knightley swipe clear lip balm on top of their cheekbones to give them a sheer, eye-catching color-free sheen.
Super-Cute Night Time Eyes for Summer
This is a super-flirty look for those summer nights when you've got a hot date. Pair it with your best "check me out" outfit!
Start by applying a nude-colored lipstick or lip glass (try L'Oreal Rouge Pulp Lipcolor in Skimpy). Next, use a large blush brush to sweep a little bronzing power on your cheeks. Remember to go light with it - the focus here is going to be on your eyes.
Now that you've set the base, get ready for sizzling eyes. Pick a daring, bright color as the focus of your face. If you're on the shy side, try blue or green. More daring chicks will want to try orange, purple, or pink. Skip the eyeliner, you're going tp use your eyeshadow instead!
Take a thin makeup brush, dip it in a little water and then swirl it into your chosen eye shadow. Use this to carefully line under you eye, ending a little bit outside your natural eye crease for a cat's eye effect. Line the top of your eye the same way.
Now, with your regular eyeshadow brush, fill in the entire eyelid with the same color.
Take some white, sparkly shadow and blend the color out a little bit at the crease of your eyelid. The result should be a slightly blurred, bold, updated cat's eye.
Finish with black mascara on your top lashes. Sizzling!
