The Wave Hello
Wavy hair is so adorable and "springy" (get it?) for spring. Start with freshly shampooed locks. If your hair is naturally curly, blow-dry it straight before beginning. If hair is straight or fine, apply volumizing mousse or styling cream to damp hair before drying.
Divide hair into 1 to 2 inch sections. Spritz each section with a setting spray, such as Matrix Biolage Thermal Active Setting Spray.
Roll the hair under on hot rollers and pin or clip in place.
Let hair set for about 10 minutes, then gently remove rollers.
Flip your hair over and gently run your fingers through your hair.
If waves seem too tight, gently comb fingers through your hair to loosen the spirals.
If you want, spray with extra-hold hair spray to prolong the life of your waves.
As a finishing touch (if you like), you can pin the front of your hair straight back or to the sides with some bobby pins or cute clips, to show more of your face. This look works especially well if hair is long and abundant.
It's a Wrap Pigtails
Steal this celebrity trick for making your pony cuter. It works on straight, wavy and curly hair.
Start with clean, dry hair. Pull hair into pigtails, securing with ouchless elastics or bands.
Grab a thick strand of hair from underneath one pigtail and wrap it up and around the elastic (hiding the elastic). Secure the end with a bobby pin below the pigtail. Repeat on the other pigtail.
Parting is Fabulous
Changing up your part can give fresh new life to any old hairstyle. For an easy change, swap sides, try one in the middle, or get dramatic with a deep side part. If you want to glam it up, add a streak of temporary hair color (or glitter mascara) on the hair at the front of the wider side (or both sides of a middle-parted style).
The Easy Peasy
It really is simple. If your hair is medium-length or longer, just pull it into a loose, low ponytail. Twist the tail upward and clip it to the back of your head with a large clip. Allow some pieces of hair to fall around your face. Tah-dah! There's your ten-second style.
The Messy Bessy
Springtime is all about less-perfect, more tousled looks. For a textured, I-woke-up-looking-this-gorgeous look, apply a surf spray (a mixture of salt and styling lotion - Bumble and Bumble makes a good one) to damp hair. Tousle hair with your fingers as you blow-dry it.
The Twisted Sister
Take a small section of hair on one side of your head, just above your ear, and divide it into two equal strands.
Start twisting the two strands of hair together. Continue twisting downwards, towards the end of the hair. Secure the twist with a hair pin at the nape of the neck.
Repeat on the other side.
Next, incorporate the twisted sections into a basic three-stranded braid. To braid, simply split hair into three equal strands, using the twisted sections into left and right strands, and a small section from the back of your head as the center strand. (Then bring the right strand ove rthe centre, and then the right over the centre again, etc).
Continue to the end and secure with an ouchless band.
To finish off your look, decorate the with a snazzy hair accessory, like a fabric flower or a jeweled pin.
The Bridgitte Bardot
She was famous for wearing this half-up, half-down hairdo (and tons of celebs copy the look, like Lindsay Lohan). You can pull ito off if your hair is shoulder-length or longer. Start with hair that was washed yesterday, not today, as this style holds better when hair isn't squeaky clean.
On dry hair, brush your hair straight back from the forehead. If your hair needs smoothing, tame it with a dab of shine serum or spray.
Use your brush to lightly tease the top layers of your hair. Tease by lifting up a hair section and gently brushing the hair back in the direction of the scalp (the opposite direction from how you'd normally brush), using small, quick strokes. Just do this a bit - the goal is to create just a bit of lift at the roots (not to make tangles).
Smooth this back-combed hair with the brush, towards the back of your head, until the top layers are smooth again but the light cushioning remains.
Now grab a section of hair at each temple and sweep it back off the face. Use a cute barrette or hairband to clip the sections together at the back of your head.
If you have a layered haircut, you can pull out a few pieces around the face to create soft, feminine wisps.
