VOLUNTEER AT MEALS ON WHEELS
Do you want to help to feed hungry people in your community?
If you've got some time to volunteer, you can do just that, by working with your local Meals on Wheels organization!
The Meals on Wheels program literally helps to "drive" hunger away in the communities it serves. Meals on Wheels is a volunteer community service that delivers hot, nutritious meals to clients' homes. The program's goals are to promote good nutrition and health, offer encouragement, and enable people to continue to live in their own homes and retain a degree of independence as long as possible.
Volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and you could help someone to stay in their home, instead of being put in an institution!
Some of the people that might get food deliveries from Meals on Wheels include senior citizens who are unable to prepare their own meals, physically or mentally handicapped individuals, and people recovering from (or living with) illness. Basically, if a person cannot prepare adequate meals for themselves, they can be helped by Meals on Wheels.
What Do Volunteers Do?
If you're over age 18 and have a valid driver's license, you could be a driver for the Meals on Wheels food delivery service. But that's not all you can do!
Program volunteers do lots more than drive from door to door. Volunteers are also needed to help prepare and package dinners to be delivered, organize schedules, make phone calls, load delivery vehicles, fundraise, do administrative office work, and even help with community outreach to spread the word and raise awareness of senior meal programs.
