DONATE CLOTHING ITEMS

Have you got old stuff in your closet that doesn't fit right anymore?

Whether the size or the style is wrong for you now, other people could really use your cast-offs.

There are so many families who don't have the money to buy clothes and shoes for their kids. This is especially tragic in the colder months, when teens from low-income families, and street kids, really suffer from the lack of adequate sweaters, boots or winter coats.

And just imagine what prom time must be like for girls whose biggest worry is not getting a date, but not being able to afford an outfit. Kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it!

YOU can make a huge difference in the lives of others, by cleaning out your clothes closet and donating the stuff you no longer want! There are many worthy organizations who can take your used items, and give them to needy people. Check out the links below, which can guide you in making your clothing donations.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

When donating used clothing items, it's most helpful if clothing itmes are clean (Wash them first if there are stains/dirt), reasonably wrinkle-free, and neatly folded or on hangers.

IF YOU'VE GOT: USED REGULAR CLOTHING AND/OR SHOES

Donate to the Salvation Army, which will pick-up clothes, shoes and other household items from most locations in the U.S., if you're donating quite a lot (3 or more bags). If you're just donating a few items, they can offer you information on where to find drop-off locations. (U.S. only)

You can also donate to Goodwill Industries. They will pick up items from you in some locations, and in other places it's requested that you drop-off items yourself. Check out their website for details. (U.S., Canada, and International)

IF YOU'VE GOT: USED PROM OR FORMAL DRESSES, JEWELRY, FANCY SHOES

Have you got a formal dress and/or accessories that you no longer need? Consider giving them to The Glass Slipper Project. This worthy organization collects used formal dresses, shoes and jewelry and provide them to young women who otherwise would not be able to attend their high school prom or other formal events. The Glass Slipper Project provides a list of facilities in several U.S. states and Canadian provinces that collect these items for charitable purposes. If there is no location near you, the organization will also provide you with information about how to donate your used formal items (as well as unopened cosmetics and hosiery products) by postal mail. (U.S.and Canada)
