Eating from boredom is a common problem. To prevent snacking when you're really not hungry, try these tips:
First, there’s a real physical reason why you feel hungry all the time: when you're a teenager, your body is growing and it needs lots of fuel to do all the thousands of things that will make you into a grown woman. Being hungry all the time is your body’s way of demanding good food (and by "good", we don’t mean cookies and chocolate!!!) We mean fruits, vegetables, whole grain breads, cereals, chicken, fish, peanut butter, and so on... foods that are wholesome and will fill you up with vitamins and minerals.
That mental craving to eat that you get even when you are not physically hungry is not uncommon. Many people eat to fill a need other than hunger, like loneliness, boredom, sadness, frustration, to put off doing something like schoolwork, or other reasons. Try to think about what it is you are not getting emotionally that would make you a happier person. If you can figure out what "hole" in your heart you are trying to fill with food, you can take care of the real issue and not to "fix" it by stuffing yourself with junk.
Also, you have to realize that food is just food! That’s all it is, just the fuel we stick in our bodies to keep ourselves going. It’s not some magical wonderstuff and it’s nothing to get all excited about. Yes it can taste yummy, but your goal from now on should be "Eat to live" (give your body the fuel to do all the things you want to achieve in a day, like being alert in class and having stamina for exercise) instead of "Live to eat" (which is a pretty boring life when you think about it). BR> 4) Get into a regular exercise habit. Working out aerobically actually decreases your appetite while it burns fat and builds calorie-burning muscle. So by exercising, you cut back on the urge to pig out, plus you burn more calories off when you do give in to temptation.
Doing so will cut back on your appetite, plus it is really good for making your hair and skin look healthy. Aim to drink 8 to 10 large glasses of cold water a day. And every time you have an urge to eat and you know it’s just a craving, drink a big glass of water first. This will at least cut your hunger a bit.
Anytime you think you are hungry, think about whether you feel like eating a piece of fruit. It that doesn’t appeal to you, you’re not really hungry and it’s just a craving. That’s a good way to test if your hunger is real.
Start paying attention to signals from your stomach that tell you how full you are when you’re eating. Stop before you get too full, and learn to recognize the difference between your stomach saying you’re hungry and a craving from your brain. When a craving hits, do some activity to keep yourself occupied with something other than eating. Play a musical instrument, exercise, rearrange your room, play with your hair and makeup, anything except eating.
