LIAR, LIAR!

Everyone hates being lied to. But sometimes, we don't spot lies until they have already done their damage. So how can you tell if your crush or boyfriend is lying to you? Myjellybean.com tips you off to the most common tell-tale signs. Remember, these are only signals... you also have to use your good sense and intuition to decide what's going on.

Bad Eye Contact

A liar may not be able to look you in the eyes. They will often avoid eye contact and look away quickly if it accidentally occurs.

Pauses in Conversation

When getting set to deliver a big whopper, a liars will often pause right before speaking. The reaosn is, they are searching for the right words or answer, and it's taking them time to think up the lie. Pausing at the end of speaking is another tell-tale sign of a liar. If a guy does this, he may be watching your response to see if he successfully pulled off his scam.

Stuttering

Does your guy usually speak smoothly, but today he's stuttering? It's possible that's a lie getting caught on his tongue.

Blinking Overload

Liars often blink uncontrollably. It's like they think by flapping their eyelids, the listener will get distracted and not notice how lame their lie is!

Nervous Laugh

When a guy lies to a girl, he will often laugh nervously after speaking. If your boyfriend tells you something with a straight face and then gives a little laugh (even though what he said wasn't funny), watch out - you could be on the receiving end of a lie.

Face Touching

This is a very typical tell-tale sign of a lie. Liars will often continually touch their face, mouth, nose or ears while talking. According to the police (who are experts on spotting liars), the higher up on their own face someone touches while talking, the bigger the lie they're trying to get away with.

Fidgeting

Liars often appear nervous or preoccupied. They fidget by tapping their feet, fingers or playing with jewelry.

What Was He Saying?

Liars often have trouble starting up again if they are stopped in the middle of their story. That's because they may have rehearsed their story so they have it down pat, but only if they start at the beginning. If you suspect your guy is lying, interrupt him and change the subject, then see if he can tell the story from where he left off!

Things Change

Liars typically forget at least part of any lie they tell, so later on they may contradict themselves if the subject is brought up. Their version of the truth seems to change over time.

Talking Big

Liars tend to talk louder than usual or use their hands a lot while talking, to further emphasize their (dishonest) point.

Really!

Liars use the word "really" often. As in, "Really, she is only a friend." (Yeah, we really believe you!)

Mr. Nice Guy

Liars sometimes act surprisingly nice, helpful or caring in order to mask their guilt. If your guy is being ultra-sweet to you lately, or you can't figure out what made him suddenly turn from Mr. Casual to Mr. Sweet and Romantic, bad news... he may be covering up a lie.
