CHUBBY FACE

Dear Jellybean,

I was wondering if you can help me with this little problem I have. I have a really really chubby face, like super fat. it's weird cuz the rest of me isn't this fat. I want a skinny face like Mischa Barton. What are some things I can do to get rid of some of this fat on my face?? Thanx.

Dear Writer,

There's no way to spot reduce - in other words, you can't just make one spot on your body thinner. If you want to lose fat from one area, you need to lose fat all over. Since you tell me the rest of you isn't fat, I can assume you're just one of those people who are born with a round face shape. Most girls with full faces find that their faces get leaner over time, as they grow up. If you want to look leaner right away, the right hairstyle can do wonders for you.

Since you don't like your round "chubby" face, the goal with styling your hair is all about making your face look slimmer. The best way to do this is to wear your hair longer than chin length. Part hair on the side to achieve a face-lengthening effect. Wear longer styles close to the face to give the apprearance of a longer, slimmer face. That means long and straight hair, either all one length or with long layers (below chin length for sure) that frame the face. Decrease the volume at the sides and around your ears and keep your hair off your cheeks.

Basically, it's best to avoid shorter and sleeked-back hairstyles, because they just make your head look like a melon unless your face is naturally thin. If your hair happens to be shorter than chin length, wear an off-center part to "interrupt" the roundness of your look. If you really want to wear a shorter style, you are best seen with hair brushed away from the face, building extra volume at the top of head to narrow the roundness of your features. Creating volume at the top of your head and keeping your forehead bare (no bangs!) will also slim your face. Think of that short, layered and flippy look with lots of teasing at the top, that Mandy Moore used to have.
